As crises and conflicts continue to unfold, the global need for refugee protection has never been greater. Enabling refugees to access safe and legal pathways to protection remains a key priority reaffirmed by the 2018 Global Compact on Refugees. It is also an expression of international solidarity with countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Uganda, which host the majority of the world’s refugees.

Synergies Migrations supports stakeholders in France with the goal of strengthening, improving, and expanding access to legal pathways for refugees. This action is structured around three main areas of intervention:

1. Coordination among public and nonprofit actors:
This area focuses on fostering exchanges and initiating cooperation among those implementing legal pathway programmes (resettlement, humanitarian corridors, university corridors, humanitarian visas, family reunification, etc.), while encouraging open and constructive dialogue with public authorities.
2. Awareness-raising among policymakers, philanthropic foundations, and the private sector:
This component aims to improve knowledge on legal pathways among political and economic decisionmakers. The objective is to contribute to a more stable legal and financial environment to support and sustain these programmes.
3. Research and development:
This area contributes to the creation of new legal pathway initiatives through an applied research program, offering expertise, resources, and networks to field actors in France and abroad. A specific focus is placed on studying the feasibility of a legal pathway for LGBTQI+ refugees.

This initiative is implemented in partnership with the Fédération de l’Entraide Protestante (FEP).
