2015–2025: A decade of reforms in European asylum policies
Since the “refugee crisis” of 2015, asylum and immigration issues have become a major concern for the European Union (EU). In this video, Matthieu Tardis, co-director of Synergies Migrations, reviews ten years of reforms in European asylum policies, up to the adoption of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum in May 2024 and the efforts to externalize these policies to third countries such as Turkey or Tunisia. Ten years of citizen engagement for refugees (with English subtitles)
In 2015, many French and European citizens became involved and created NGOs to support the reception and integration of refugees. This report gives the floor to Marine Mandrila and Louis Martin from Refugee Food, Inès Mesmar from La Fabrique Nomade, and Cécile Pierrat Schiever from Kodiko, who reflect on the driving forces behind their engagement over the past ten years, which has continued into 2025 despite an increasingly challenging financial and political context. Languages and migration: between obligation and the right to learn
Mastery of the host country’s language can be a formidable barrier, leading to exclusion and limiting access to rights for exiled people. But language is more than a tool for inclusion. Whether it is the language of the host country or that of countries of exile, their interaction opens up spaces for dialogue and exchange between diverse cultural worlds, creating opportunities for linguistic hospitality that are essential to building peace and social cohesion. The power of languages: mobile French-learning teams in Corrèze (with English subtitles)
In 2021, in the heart of Corrèze, a group of local NGOs set up an innovative French-language teaching program for migrants and refugees. This video looks back at a pilot project combining tailored courses and professional teachers traveling to places of residence, starting from the asylum application stage and throughout the integration process. The project was supported by a group of French foundations. Synergies Migrations acted as an intermediary between civil society and philanthropic actors and supported the project’s implementation. The video received awards at the Deauville Green Awards and the Spot Festival in Arcachon.
